Sony 1080p
Sony has now released two new home theater projectors, and the 1080p is one of them. The Sony 1080p projector has been nicknamed the Pearl, and it is far less expensive than its brother unit, the Ruby. If you are insistent upon owning a Sony projector, 1080p is the way to go. Things You Should Note To start off with, Sony uses SXRD technology, which basically means that this is a Sony 1080p LCD projector. SXRD is not exactly LCD, but it is a close equivalent. The benefits to this are that the projector costs less than the cheapest Sony 1080p home theater DLP projector that could be created. This projector does have a lot of nice features, such as a 1.72 times zoom, which is quite a bit larger than many other projectors on the market. Unfortunately, there seem to be a few issues with mounting this particular projector. The overall size is bigger than most of the other similarly priced projectors, so it seems a bit boxy if you have it set on a table, and you can never seem to get the angle just right if you ceiling mount the Sony 1080p projector. With screen set ups that are too close to the projector itself, you will have even more problems trying to get your picture just right. The Sony 1080p projector bulb has very little information published about it, except perhaps the price of replacing it. In general a Sony 1080p projector lamp costs around three hundred dollars, but there is very little information about how long these lamps will last. What Does It Cost? The cost of one of these monstrous projectors is quite high compared to other manufacturers, but really reasonable when compared to other Sony models. The Sony 1080p is in the price range of five thousand dollars. However, if you can find a discount Sony 1080p, you will be looking at about $4500. For some, this may still feel a little over priced, but not by much. Overall, the quality of this projector is very high, and even though it is not exactly LCD or DLP technology, it is still very competitive. The features offered on this projector are good, but you may have some trouble with getting your image on the screen in the first place, and that can be very stressful if you just want to sit back and watch a movie. The pricing is a little high, but if you are set on buying a Sony, then this is a great deal for you.
