Projector Mount
Once you’ve shopped around for your projector, seen everything that’s out there, and settled on a final decision you may think that’s the end of the road. Au contraire my friend; you still have many important decisions left to make; one is how your unit will be left mounted. There are several different mounts available depending on your venue and need. Price on these mounts varies greatly as well and is certainly something that should be taken into consideration. When you’re choosing a spot for your mount, you should remember that they are not typically ‘movable.’ That is, the spot that you choose should be well centered as that will be the spot the projector hits. With widely swinging price categories and a number of different projector mounts to choose from, there is sure to be a projector mount which is correct for your budget. By and large, as a rule of thumb, projector mounts break out like this: the more static, screw it into a wall or ceiling and there it shall be are the lesser expensive of these items; two hundred or so dollars only; the more advanced of these machines, with electronic lifts from higher ceilings or that emerge with their projectors from a hidden clutch within the ceiling; these are considerably more expensive; two or three thousand dollars. A couple hundred vs. a couple thousand? I know, I hear your argument already. But the truth is that there are many, many instances where they wouldn’t even consider a couple hundred dollar mount; it doesn’t work for the needs of the venue or circumstance. Do you think that they care about a few measly thousand dollars when planning the Super Bowl Halftime Show which in itself generates millions of dollars in advertisement revenue? Of course not! So they need to be sure that their projectors rise up from the field at just the right moment to catch The Artist Formerly Known As Prince or Aerosmith or Beyonce at that very moment that will leave the fans drooling in a puddle from their living room couch; concernedly wanting more. For the less dramatic finish, there are also projector mounts done in the ceiling which are effective for schools, particularly colleges, in departments where projectors would be needed regularly. Since no one can trust anyone else, the projector mount seems to me to be the only way to go. With clever fastening of the projector mount, perhaps behind a tile or some sort, with a single key which is available in the department office during the daytime, there is little chance that an expensive projector unit would be otherwise stolen or defiled. The chief concern amount projector ceiling mounts should also be of universal coverage; that is, the style should be the same across platforms, so that anyone who’s used ceiling mounted projectors before can understand the principle. Whether they are mounted in the ceiling for display use, to project slides, or as a mounted TV projector, anyone who’s ever used a universal projector mount should understand its basic function.
